Date:      Wednesday, 31 October 2012
Time:      3pm
Venue:   CENSAM Conference Room

Synopsis

CENSAM Cyberinfrastructure group (PI: Jud Harward (former), Les Norford) has developed a Cyberinfrastructure framework with three components: CENSAM data repository (CDR), CENSAM Cyberinfrastructure (CCI) and Provenance system. The CDR is used for archiving, managing, sharing and plotting individual projects sensor data. The CCI registers sensor data among heterogeneous projects domains and uses antologies to enable cross-domain searches. The Provenance system is a web-based process for tracking and managing geo-spatial analysis of sensor data.

Casual but real live-demonstration will be presented including current use case of the CDR, registration and retrieval processes involved with adding new CDRs into the CCI, and a demonstration of web-based geo-spatial analysis using hurricane and rainfall data. A schedule for the deployment of the supplementary materials backing these systems up will also be announced during the presentation.

About the Speakers

Dr. Byounghyun Yoo joined SMART as a research scientist in 2009. Previously, He was a research fellow in the Modeling, Virtual Environments, and Simulation (MOVES) Institute at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey California. He served as the first Web3D fellow of the Web3D Consortium, the nonprofit organization that develops and maintains the international standard for 3D graphics on the Web. He was the chief research director of the virtual reality group at PartDB Co., Ltd., a Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) spinoff founded in 1999. His research interests include modeling and visualization large-scale virtual environment, convergence of virtual reality and geographic information system, image-based modeling and rendering, multi-sensory virtual reality (VR) system, physics based VR, and Web3D techniques. He is also an inventor of 9 patents in computer graphics technology and human computer interface.

Dr. Juebo Wu is a Research Fellow in the Department of Geography, National University of Singapore. He received Ph.D. in spatial data mining from Wuhan University (2010), and received M.S. (2007) and B.S. (2005) in software engineering from Wuhan University. He has participated in several national projects since his master, such as Key Projects in the National Science & Technology Pillar Program of China, National High Technology Research and Development Program of China and Major State Basic Research Development Program of China. He has also participated in many business GIS projects as the project manager. His research interest includes data provenance, semantic web, ontology, and spatial data mining.

Dr. Chih-Yuan Chen is a Research Fellow of the Department of Geography at National University of Singapore. He finished his Ph.D. program at National Taiwan University in 2011. During his Ph.D. study period, he has been in receipt of multiple scholarships and in participation of several research projects granted by Taiwan National Science Council. His research interests fall under the knowledge discovery framework for geographical database with focus on geo-visualization and neural network. He is also interested in theoretical theme of cyberinfrastructure and geographic information science. Current topics of interest include spatial ontology, spatial provenance, and semantic web.
